How would you finish this sentence: “the family that blogs together_____”

a) stays together
b) has more fun
c) flames together

Personally, when families blog, it really gives you a glympse into their inner workings, how they think and what they care about.

Interestingly enough, we all tend to spend a great deal of time discussing issues, web techniques and design. Karen and Laura have taught me a lot… they backed me into a blogging corner and got me started late in the game… but it is fun.

Karla is looking at blogging and having her own domain address… and I am thinking about that… although I do not think the world is just quite ready for Karla… and Kristin… well, although the most computer savy, she invests her time in other more thrilling pursuits.

Here is a family oriented blog:

Your Mother is soooo Wrong…

old nasty and bitta muthas

Once apon a time there was a mother, who was saddened by all the death happening in Vietnam, so with the help of her friends she formed a group to show her displeasure.

When the war ended, with nothing to do, she decided to focus her energy combating something she clearly did not understand and feared… science and technology. Nuclear power is soo bad, all the mullahs tell us. Today, we are dependent on the great oil satans from the middle east… thanks to folks like these… in my humble opinion. Also, I do wonder about groups that don’t have their pictures on their web site.

So , this brings up the question in my mind: ‘was mother always right?’

I am not saying that men… or fathers … are always right, but I am saying that it takes two committed people to raise children. Each parent brings a different perspective, often as a product of our biology rather than just our environment. Men make a difference.

For example, in an article entitled “Your Mom was wrong — Horse play is  an important part of development”, they site a study:

“In an article published in the April issue of Current Directions in Psychological Science, Sergio and Vivian Pellis of the University of Lethbridge reviewed multiple studies involving animals, and found a link between rough and tumble play and social competence.”

Interestingly enough, this brings into question some of the current practices in our schools that label the normal rough and tumble play of boys as deviant , when it is really ‘normal.’ I guess when women look at girls sitting with their hands folded as ‘acceptable’ then anything resembling ‘boyish’ behavior would be shocking and in need of medication. Schools are dominated and run largely by women in K-12. It’s no surprise that folks are looking for alternatives to public schools.

So, Moms, Mothers, Muthas and Mullahs can be wrong… but then, we all really knew that anyway.

Modifying your Jenny Craig Meal!

Salmon Sushi is very yummy!!!!Okay, Laura made me stop and take a picture of my ‘modified’ Jenny Craig dinner…

Part of the fun is taking the prepared meal from Jenny Craig and doing something with it that makes it special… and… good!

Well, recently a new meal was introduced by Jenny Craig … Salmon with a bed of rice and thinly sliced carrots.

Karen and I have missed having sushi on this diet and we have tried to modify everything to make sushi. However, the salmon and rice was a perfect addition. I add stringbeans and baby onions (sprinkled with Susie Q) for a little extra ( they are ‘free foods’).

Thanks Karen… dinner tonight… was delicious!

Jenny Craig — the family is now down over 150 lbs.

wow! am I really obese?

I have been on Jenny Craig since December 6th and I have lost over 49 lbs… and although I now fit comfortably in a size 38 pair of pants… my BMI (body mass index) says I am ‘very over weight’. Interestingly enough, when I reach my goal weight of ‘229’ — which I haven’t been at since my wrestling days in high school– I will simply be ‘overweight’ and wearing a size 34 pair of pants.

The BMI is a good guideline… but athletes , anyone who works out regularly or genetically has heavy bone density ( you can be tested for this) won’t fit the standard chart. If I were to reach high normal of 205 lbs… well… I’d start recieving food packages from friends.

However, progress is measured in many ways… the scale, how clothes fit, new smaller sizes and compliments. I have tried a lot of diets over the years… including my own very Spartan one… but Jenny Craig’s has been the easiest. In addition, Karen (-53 lbs) and Laura (-48 lbs) have been great diet partners!
