For the Love of Wine!

the more lusty comrades of King Author's Court

I think to truly appreciate the human experience requires many understandings, certainly the enjoyment of wine is among them.

Years ago, I joined a fun troup of wine lovers entitled Knights of the Vine. They further introduced me into the lore and rich history of Wine… in particular, California Wine. The founder, the late Norman Gates, brought me into the brotherhood back in 1979. Although I have not been active in the organization for quite some time, I found it educational and enjoyable.

” Water divides world population, wine gather it”

Another way to get started is to try something new now and again, sign up for periodic wine purchases, and possibly buy a book or two on the subject.

Then there is the story of Jean Montidier… aaaah, that’s for another time.

Jean Montdidier... an amusing fellow

Los Angeles “Avengers” Arena Football Team Stands Tall!

Me under my beloved blanket from Southern Cal

We just got back from a Los Angeles “Avengers” Game… arena football at it’s very best! Karen got tickets for us and it was a great night of real football! First, we started at the Staples Center in los Angeles and we walk in and recieve a free gift! It was a mini Jersey of the starting quarterback Sonny Combie… and it never stopped… with the Avengers scoring over 50 points everyone was treated to a coupon for a free burger at Carl’s Junior and a free Shake at Weinerschnizel! The cool word here is FREE!!!!

We drove home to San Luis Obispo… and I had to show off my new Southern Cal Blanket with Tommy Trojan… munching my favorite salad… and relaxing!

Special Thanks to Karen & Karen’s Professor Tamanaha for a great look at the Avengers!

Jenny Craig Salad — for the Big man!

Roger's Jenny Craig Style Salads!

Okay. Ima gonna give you my secret to massive weight reduction for the big guy… a big salad!

Most women get their daily fat overdose from dropping a bottle of Marie’s Salad dressing on their itty bitty salad… they don’t realize the thousand or so calories of fat they just added to make it soooo yummy. Then they wonder why they aren’t losing weight?

The key is to have a certain type of big salad — one with a lot of ‘free food’ — and Jenny’s thinning but good 60 calorie dressing.

Here’s some of the cool stuff I drop into my salad:— cherry tomatoes,
— sliced hearts of palm,
— 8 jumbo olives,
— wax beans,
diced onions,
— button mushrooms,
— bean sprouts,
— artichoke ‘bottoms’
… shaken and not stirred with the Jenny Craig dressing
— Seasoned with Susie Q seasoning —

and topped off with a half dozen Asparagus spears!

 Yummy!

For all the big guys out there… it helps you get through the afternoon…

Jenny Craig…. I’m down 55 and the family down 160 lbs.

the NEW Roger and Laura 2007

What is it about going on a diet that makes you believe that you have always been slimmer? Yes, Laura and I have looked like this most of our married life (35 years this year)… but recently, well… let’s just say that Laura doesn’t want any ‘before’ pictures up… at least on my blog. Karla took this picture when we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium on Wednesday.Today is ‘weigh-in’ day at Jenny Craig and this is a nice discipline… a fun routine where the proverbial ‘rubber meets the road.’ Will I be slimmer and by how much? Some folks and competitors say the ‘weigh-ins’ are just wrong… but those are folks who think of an entire pie as a single serving. You can’t lie to yourself when someone is looking over your shoulder…. besides it is fun.Karen’s weigh-in was yesterday in South Pasadena. She’s closing in on 60 lbs lost. Our weigh-in was this morning. Laura dropped a pound today and I slimmed down 3 more… As a family we have lost over 160 lbs and I have dropped about 55 lbs. (61 lbs counting my pre-Jenny drop).I’ve got 30 more to go.

Modifying your Jenny Craig Meal!

Salmon Sushi is very yummy!!!!Okay, Laura made me stop and take a picture of my ‘modified’ Jenny Craig dinner…

Part of the fun is taking the prepared meal from Jenny Craig and doing something with it that makes it special… and… good!

Well, recently a new meal was introduced by Jenny Craig … Salmon with a bed of rice and thinly sliced carrots.

Karen and I have missed having sushi on this diet and we have tried to modify everything to make sushi. However, the salmon and rice was a perfect addition. I add stringbeans and baby onions (sprinkled with Susie Q) for a little extra ( they are ‘free foods’).

Thanks Karen… dinner tonight… was delicious!
