Romney Passes the Baton

Governor Mitt Romney

Governor Mitt Romney passed the baton in a way that is characteristically UN-politician like. Some skeptical folks might guess is that it is because he is funding his candidacy mostly or part out of his own pocket… but my guess this is the mark of a shrewed businessman who knows how to cut his losses and come out smelling like a rose.

Governor Romney has always impressed me… now, more than ever.

John McCain & the Reagan Coalition

the NEW Reagan Coalition
What’s not to like about John McCain?

John brings together the same groups that Ronald Reagan did back in 1980. His attractiveness to each group is a bit different that President Reagan, John has many more moderates and folks on the left… but the coalition is in many significant ways… the same.

Now, I do understand that there are some vocal ‘conservatives’ that want to turn themselves into ‘suicide voters’ by supporting democrats… but these are your ‘abortion-is-everything’ conservatives and neither side of this debate can swing this election…. though the ‘social conservatives’ may try by linking to other issues they may feel are sexy with the voters… but the coalition behind McCain is formidable. bring it!

Of course, John McCain might throw a bone by putting a social conservative on the ticket as President Reagan did by placing a liberal Republican on his ticket. We shall see… politics makes such strange bedfellows.

Besides, a ‘suicide’ voter is already dead from the neck up.

John McCain Rocks!

Rudy endorses john
I have nothing but admiration for Rudy and his endorsement of John McCain is nothing less than a real class act.

Having lived and worked in crime capital of New York City in the 70’s and witnessed the transformation under Rudy … I was amazed! His leadership after 911 was no less spectacular. Here’s an excerpt of an email Rudy sent to everyone who supported him:

‘Our nation’s next President must understand and make a commitment to keep us on offense in the Terrorists’ War on Us. He must understand that stimulating our economy requires cutting taxes, because you make better decisions with your money than Washington bureaucrats. He must be committed to ending illegal immigration and securing our borders. And he must use free-market principles to make health care more affordable for all Americans.

I believe John McCain is that man. He is the right leader to move us forward, unite our party and transform Washington. I hope that you will join me in supporting him to be the next President of the United States.

As I look forward to the road ahead, I am optimistic because I believe America’s best days are still to come. Our country has a bright future, but we must work together to ensure that our shared prosperity creates new and better opportunities for us all.’

Best Wishes,

Rudy

PS. John McCain will make a great President

Indoctrinate U. and today’s University

Did indoctrinate U. Make me Famous?
For those of you who haven’t heard about what’s happenin’ on college campuses today…let’s just say … it’s not all good.

Evan Coyne Maloney has produced a fascinating film — entitled ” Indoctrinate U.” — on what might be called ‘political correctness’ on college campuses.

One review:

“The Weekly Standardsaid, “The documentary combines relatively shocking footage (one professor excitedly tells the camera “whiteness is a form of racial oppression . . . treason to whiteness is loyalty to humanity”) with snappy editing to create a documentary that bounces quickly from subject to subject.”

Upcoming screenings of the film can be found on their site!

On one hand, on many campuses there exists a hyper-sensitivity to sexually displaying a banana on a campus, ‘hurting’ or ‘offending’ someone’s feelings…. whereas displaying our American Flag could become grounds for suspension some places. The inmates are running the asylum.

So, what has this to do with me? Yep, I may be in the film. For 7 years, my wife — the professor — struggled for existence with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo … and succeeded. And what happened to — in my humble opinion — the “bad guys?”... they eventually all received big raises and promotions.

If you get a chance… check it out. If it hadn’t happened to me… I’d be laughing.

Cancer & other ‘comedies’

Quotes are a wonderful way of not having to reinvent the wheel…

” Tragedy is when I cut my finger, comedy is when you walk into sewer and die.” -Mel Brooks ( as related by Jerry Bunin)

zLeroy SieversAll of us tend to be preoccupied about things that affect our lives and we –hopefully — have a few folks on the planet that we care about nearly as much… and maybe, a bit more. However, the reality is that we never really know what the other person is going through until we ourselves are faced with similar serious issues. In fact, some people have a real difficult time putting themselves in another person’s ‘moccasins’ even in simplest things… we call this inability… lack of empathy.

I don’t believe in ‘sympathy’ which you can find in the dictionary somewhere between SH*T and SYPHILLUS, but empathy is much more. Empathy is genuine.
But for many of us, seeing what others face provides understanding and courage … for ourselves in the issues we deal with today and down the road.

I have blogged about this before… but this site — for as long as it continues — it is well worth the look. LEROY SIEVERS
