Florida WHO? Ohio WHAT? CALTECH WINS!!!!!!

Caltech has always held a special place in my heart… and it’s not for what you might anticipate… it is their sports.

If you have ever been to Caltech, you will notice that athletics has a surprising history there… if you look at their records and dig a little…  the football team ended one of the worst losing streaks a while back… even with a line averaging over 300…. IQ (okay, typical athletic hyperbola… ). They have a dirt track with ancient records stretching back to the Olympic Champion ‘California Comet’.

yep... that me on top a few years ago... I learned from a wrestler/Ph.D. from Caltech

So where is my connection? Although it may have been an NCAA violation… I was sent up to Caltech to learn the rules of wrestling and train with a young red headed Ph.D. who had also been a very successful NCAA wrestler. I’m the guy on top ni the picture. I discovered that wrestlers are some of the smartest athletes… I learned a lot. After weeks of training… I never lost again…. never

Caltech Wins in Men's Basketball! So I want to add my congratulations to Caltech in their latest basketball win… breaking one of the longest losing streaks …ever. The AP had a nice write up.

Although it is glorious to win… there is much to be gained from the journey and the struggle…. and in doing things that others never expect from you.

For those who don’t know… it’s the Caltech Beavers….  hmmmm… I would have thought the ‘engineers’… Caltech humor.

Ohio State & Florida… the National Championship?

Gator... it's what's for dinner!

I live with and love a Buckeye fan… soooo…. here I am.

However, I have to say that a Trojan and Buckeye contest would have been glorious. It would have been a football game that…. as the Klingon’s say, “worthy of song!”

Worthy of Song!

The Japanese at the top… roughly means: “Gator it’s what’s for dinner!”…the Samuri drawing was lifted from the movie poster of  “The Last Samuri” ( a personal favorite of mine along with “True Lies”, “Red October”, “Patton”, “Braveheart”… and a few secrets like… “the Devil wore Prada” and “Pride & Prejudice”).

Although I am not sure, I don’t think the warrior was carrying the Ohio State battle Flag in the movie… but I could be wrong.

FIGHT ON !

The Gators THINK they’ve already beat Ohio State… here’s the proof!

Gators Only THINK they have already won!Well…. I’ll admit to filling in the sleeves a bit in photoshop… but this is what the Gators are presenting to their fans…

Sounds to me like they THINK they already have it in the bag?

Now — if it were up to me — and we all know how Urban Meyer listens to every word I write… I would have held back a bit before I would let any pictures of this stuff out in the open.

Hey… I mean… if some loyal Buckeye’s got a hold of these pictures… well… they might post them in their football locker room and get the troops all worked UP! Hey, then they might actually win?!!!

I wonder what the folks are doing at the Big Buckeye Blogs now-a-days? Oh, they must be saying… we can’t beat Urban Meyer… he’s too smart for us.

As for me…. I already watched THE Game (Trojans killed the team O.S. squeeked by)… but the Buckeye fan in our house wasn’t happy when she saw this … and I sleep with her and not Urban.

Fight On…

Love in the OOOOO’s… it never really changes

Do I know You? Were YOU the one that gave me this?

There’s a fun movie… an old one (1935)… that has been a family favorite around here for … well.. a very long time.

It is based on the light opera the ‘Merry Widow’ and stars in the film adaptation with Jannette MacDonald as the ‘widow’ and Maurice Chevalier as ‘the lover’.

The story is an old one… and forgetting about the overall plot for a moment … it really addresses the question… can a career playboy really settle down?

In the movies… yes… in real life… no.

However, it is worth the watch as it will make you smile. The Merry Widow actually won an Oscar… which is surprising given the fact that most Oscar winning movies have fallen into the dust bin of time. The humor is priceless… here the king is worried about a revolution:

King Achmet: So they’re blaming me, huh?
Valet: For everything. They’re even telling jokes about your majesty.
King Achmet: Are they funny?
Valet: No.
King Achmet: That’s bad.

Some may find this movie to be less real in the world of today… Even in  Britney & Paris‘s circles … and in the wake of the partying McKinney High school cheerleaders… redemption, love and marriage are not totally lost or forgotten…. possibly… just hibernating.

Besides, if a lasting relationship is what you want… Love and marriage is as strong and durable as any two people wish to make it.

One of the best researchers into relationships is John Gottman of the University of Washington… the last I heard he was interested in how successful relationships maintain themselves… as opposed to just reparing those that break up. You can read more here.
