buy California Milk while you can

Who says nobody gives you something for free? CLICK on the picture above and travel to the REAL CALIFORNIA MILK site and pick up some milk and cheese coupons!

My daughter Karla knows I am very fond of the milk our dairy folk produce in California and she drew the lovely drawing of me milking a cow the old fashioned way. Part of my fondness is that there really is a difference in taste, even the non-fat milk tastes richer and thicker!

This holiday season, I am looking forward to making my version of George Washington’s Eggnog with real California Heavy Cream!

Here’s my recipe!

not just another diet book

I need three books... because I might want to read it again and again! 😉

Let me start off and say… this is not your typical ‘diet book’. There are no lectures, no plans, no pep talks. There is nothing you have to do but read it!

Reading this book will inspire you to maybe take that first step into losing a few pounds or a ton. You will read about many many people that have lost weight and what they thought about the process. You will meet folks like Laura and me and our family using a  portioned control plan by Jenny Craig to many others who have been successful using Atkins and other systems. Some folks will tell you about their surgical solution. It’s all there!

Here’s where to read more!

Good Luck!

bringing song into the home

Outside of the initial set up of purchasing a cage, toys , food and paper, adding a pet Parakeet or two to your home is a rather inexpensive project. The maintenance is much less than many pets, but the return is well worth it.

Laura had grown up with birds and it seemed to me in our animal menagerie that a bird was way to far down on the food chain to be safe in our environment! Today, is a different matter and I set up the cage and Laura chose who she would like to have in the home. Laura likes to find birds with spunk… and these two are a handful!

So, after 40 years it is nice that I can still do something to make my spouse smile like a child in wonder.

the best seasoned, simmered and baked lamb ever!

seasoned, simmered and baked leg of lamb
CLICK on the above picture to see how I prepared my leg of lamb!

Kokkari restaurant  is a favorite stop of mine in San Francisco. It is a wonderful Greek Estiatorio offering orginal and traditional Greek cuisine. Recently, I picked up their cookbook and read how they prepared my favorite dish… their ‘reddened lamb shank.’ A lamb shank is nice if you aren’t into ‘sharing’, but I wondered if I could make it in a similar fashion using an entire leg of lamb? The answer is yes!

Part of the key to any good meal is in the preparation, but one has to tip ones “Toque” to the key role quality ingredients play. My lamb came from  Superior Farms  and was exceptional in every way. My herbs and seasoning was fresh … and the Greek wine I consumed in the process made it all very festive. Opa!

We didn’t have lamb growing up ( although I am told we did) as it was expensive compared to a diet of all-you-can-eat carrots. However, it has been one of my favorite foods.

Here is how I prepared (basic recipe) my lego of lamb!

My daughter Karla wanted to take a picture of ‘hungry Dad’ … believe me, little acting was required in this photo!

Nothing was leftover in this meal!

a day of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Day is the Day celebrated by most Americans, not so much for its historical significance, but for its meaning. Giving thanks for our blessings, our friendships and our families no matter how humble or grand is part of an appreciation for living.

…and thanks to all those who help preserve our way of life.
