What’s with weenie man Ted Turner?

Ted Turner has decided which side he is on in the war on terror?

Ted Turner is a true ‘existentialist’… he does what he wants and he says what he wants…. but it always leaves me shaking my head.

Take a look at his life… he built CNN and made a ton… but then he marries Jane Fonda… which has got to be one of the weirdest things to do… I guess it probably helped that you both saw eye-to-eye politically. Talk about ‘sleeping with the enemy.’

Recently, he has made a few more typically strange statements…

First, he says the ‘media’ has no place in showing an American Flag. AaaAaah, Ted, you bought the United Nations with a billion bucks, so should they be showing your flag? Frankly, the blue beenies have yet to serve and protect anyone, dude.

Your other statement about not having decided what side you are on in the war on terror is just plain wacked. Although I know you own a huge part of the frozen north in Montana or the Dakotas… a place where Osama has little or no interest… you might think about the rest of us. If you haven’t seen Ted’s interview, check it out on Youtube.com.

It just is amazing how out of touch some rich guys are… they forgot their roots. After all, it was my daughter in Iraq… and not his.

Whose Women do Men Protect?

Fair Young Maiden , a bottle of run and thar be a full moon t'night, Luv!The Nature vs. Nurture debate goes on and on and don’t you just love it?

Some people just can’t let it go when faced with recent advances in the scientific community that appear to contradict their entire life’s work.

For far too long, one notion of how the world worked held sway. We were taught to believe that if you succeeded it was because of your environment and if you failed it was because of your environment… your ‘genes’ had nothing to do with it. Science is giving us a much clearer explanation, today.

We’re having to unlearn what we were taught and that is becoming most disturbing — even frightening — to those who have invested their career and their political life in one point of view. The resulting conflict between current dogma and the influences of new research in genetics shows up in the darndest places with often the most surprising of advocates.

A recent article by Shaunti Feldhahn and Diane Glass took opposing points of view in the discussion: CHIVALRY TODAY: SHOULD MEN BE EXPECTED TO PROTECT WOMEN. I leave the full reading to you in the attached link above, but allow me to offer this brief and rather incomplete & brutal summary: Shaunti says that it is in men’s nature to protect and Diane takes the position that women shouldn’t want male protection and — besides — it is a learned behavior. The truth is somewhat different from both.

There is plenty of research on the concept of ‘altruism’. This is a kinship phenomenon. As it applies to men, males will protect and defend women in their family… or whatever extension of ‘family’ they visualize. So, Shaunti is more correct by concluding that men will ( or we expect them to) protect women within their group.. and Diane is less correct in assuming that men will not protect women… with the exception that men are less likely to protect women outside their family group.

Unfortunately, folks like Diane appear to view these types of discussions with fear. They apparently worry that agreement in ‘hereditary’ issues and discussions might throw society back to the age in which women were relatively dependent and economically and sexually powerless and fret that the unintended concequences of her actions would be to find herself and all womenkind stuck in slavery once again. This is a case of fear driving politics and politics erasing science.

There is a chance that Diane only knows weenie men and cats, lots of them. I do seldom see women like Diane with anything like a man… more like a eunuch. I wrote about ‘Weenie men and the Women who love them”… I just hope you — Diane — aren’t one of them. Weenie men seldom make women happy in the long run.

My Blog today reminds me of two things:

1) The world of science is opening doors we never dreamed… and all for the better… however, let’s hope we are wise enough to understand what we see…. ethics seems to travel slower than science.

2) Diane, to protect our culture and your world, you may need a few real men… and real women…… or we all may be viewing that horrific world yuo envision through the slits of a burka.

It’s never too late to see the world for what it is and change your point of view.

An ode to Niacin…… the Wonder FOOD!

NIACIN

“For metabolic purposes, niacin is interchangeable with its amide, niacinamide, also known as nicotinamide.”

Well, that’s a mouthful!

BUY THE BOOK!Science is beginning to show some specific benefits in the use of Niacin…. whether in the treatment of blood sirum cholesterol, schizophrenia  and many other maladies.

Here are a few facts that you may not know:

1) “Niacin plays an important role in ridding the body of toxic and harmful chemicals. It also helps the body make various sex and stress-related hormones in the adrenal glands and other parts of the body. Niacin is effective in improving circulation and reducing cholesterol levels in the blood”

Here’s a book review on the author to the left:

2) There are a wide variety of foods that are rich in vitamin B-3 ( Niacin)…. so did you know:

Who will stand up for Kurdistan?

Kurdish woman and child in traditional Kurdish colorsMost Westerners have heard very little about the ancient people referred to as the Kurds. Probably , if you watched an old ‘Sinbad the Sailor” movie with Douglas Fairbanks you might remember the heroine referring to her homeland in the Kurdish Hills… but that — if anything — is all most people know.

The Kurds are faced with two greedy sophisticated armies that have historically lusted over their resources and strategic position as the gateway to Iraq. Will this be Ruwanda or Afghanistan?

Who will stand up for Kurdistan in their struggle for complete independence?

KurdistanThe Kurds in iraq have been an autonomus democracy for 10 years. Christianity has been around since the Byzantine era:

“An educated guess for the total number of Christian Kurds (excluding the Assyrians, whose claim to a separate ethnic identity must be honored) would place them in the range of tens of thousands, most of them living in Turkey.”

Recent developments indicate a more ominious future for the Kurds once again:

“Our military sources report 5,000 Kurdish rebels of the anti-Iran PJAK and anti-Turkish PKK are holed up in bases in the Quandil Mountains (picture). Iranian and Turkish troop concentrations are already 7-8 km inside Iraq. Washington suspects Ankara-Tehran military complicity and fears a general Iranian-Turkish-Armenian-Kurdish conflagration will ensue, which Iran will use to grab itself a strategic foothold in northern Iraq and Turkey to seize oil-rich Kirkuk”

Kurdistan... the other Iraq... the other Turkey... and the other Iran

Kurdistan is on the brink… who will listen and who will help?

Aaah, the Joy of the morning!

Sometimes morning guys can stay up past 9pmThere really are two kinds of people in this world: those who enjoy the night and folks who love the mornings…. I am one of those who love to wake up to the smell of early morning coffee and watch the sunrise bring new hope to the day.

Scientists have been looking at this subject for a long time:

“Being a morning lark or a night owl is something encoded in people’s genes and we here made substantial progress to uncover the molecular basis for that,” explains Dr. Kramer.

In our family we have a combination of ‘owls’ and ‘larks’…. something Mendelian about the diversity 0f our group as my bride tends to be more of a night person. Karla loves the night, Karen and Kristin have lived in both situations… but 5 am just seems like the right time to be up…. and smell the coffee.

So whatever time you get up…. just be happy in the knowledge that it was the way it was meant to be… for you.
