ISLAM: What the West Needs to Know

My letter to the San Luis Obispo TribuneWell, here in little San Luis Obispo at a place called Cal Poly, we had a thing called ”
Islamo-Fascist Awareness Week.”

All across our nation’s colleges we had folks demonstrating against the right of other folks to see this movie or speak… or think… or maybe even exist. History does tend to repeat itself…. if we are all not careful.

In any event, it was a happening and many people left feeling surprised about what they had learned… and shocked by what they thought they knew about Islam and what they didn’t.

On a completely different and totally unrelated topic…. Al Queda has redirected some of their energy back into the internet as reported by one news agency:

“On Sunday, Nov. 11, al Qaeda’s electronic experts will start attacking Western, Jewish, Israeli, Muslim apostate and Shiite Web sites. On Day One, they will test their skills against 15 targeted sites expand the operation from day to day thereafter until hundreds of thousands of Islamist hackers are in action against untold numbers of anti-Muslim sites.”

So why November 11th? Maybe it has to do with our Veteran’s Day… or maybe it has something to do with rekindling of the sputtering glory of the Ottoman empire:

“In the Treaty of Szitvatorok (Nov. 11, 1606), the prewar boundaries were confirmed, and for the first time the sultan accepted the Habsburg emperor as his equal and ended his payments of tribute for northern Hungary.”

As the old Spanish saying,” it is better to die on your feet than live on your knees.”

Islamofascism or Islamophobia? You decide.

Islamofascism discussion at Cal Poly
Thanks to no small efforts in the past by organizations like FIRE, Cal Poly students, faculty and the larger community were given the rare opportunity to listen to an alternative point of view… Greg Davis author of “Islam What the West Needs to Know.”

Dr. Davis’s thesis is that Islam is more than just a ‘religion’. It is a geopolitical entity that threatens western civilization. His film is spiced with interviews and ‘exerpts’ from Islamic scripture that are quite challenging.

Here are a few pictures and links from the event at Cal Poly.

It was very sobering.

Viva Sanchez! Trojans were ‘el magnifico’ over Irish!

Southern California Trojans NOW have a second quarterback!
New starting USC Trojan quarterback  Mark Sanchez  performed wonderfully in the  Trojan’s  one sided win over the struggling Irish of Notre Dame.

I am sure that the  ‘big drop’ the team  experienced in the plane flight on the way to meetnig the Irish ensured that everyone was ‘fully awake’ when they were in South Bend! Here’s a few quotes:

“That was terrifying,” fullback Stanley Havili said. “I thought I was going to die.”

“There was a moment there when I was thinking, ‘This is it,’ ” Dennis Slutak, USC’s director of football operations, told The Los Angeles Times.

So, the Trojans are back on track…

Fight On!

Great Documentary : Indoctrinate U

Indoctrinate U is Enlightening
Unless you were at the Premier showing in Washington, D.C. or recieved a dvd preview as I did recently, you haven’t seen one of the more fascinating yet unsettling documentaries of our time.

I am speaking of  “Indoctrinate U”.

This documentary visits universities all over the country looking at issues of free speech, faculty political composition and institutionalized hostility towards dissenting opinions.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo  is one of the featured ‘villains’ (my word) in Evan Malloney’s Documentary. We know a little bit about them ourselves from the top down… just Yahoo/Alta Vista or Google the name  Steve Hinkle  and check out the free speech site  FIRE.

This is a movie every parent, alumna, donor or concerned citizen should see… especially before sending your child to college or choosing a college…. any college.

Cal Poly needs to change it or lose it

Cal Poly College RepublicansChange is very hard for institutions. They fear change. Change represents a threat. After the left started their march through the educational system in America in the 60’s, they closed the door behind them to keep ‘everyone else’ out.

This is the REAL reason why there are few conservatives, moderates or Republicans in Academia.

Cal Poly is not the worst, but it is typical of the problem of a ‘one party’ system in higher education. It is an example of “you think like us, or you’re against us.”

Although many universities (including Cal Poly) are continuing to maintain apparently illegal and draconian ‘speech codes’ ( see thefire.org),  it’s really hard to argue against ‘free speech.’ Censorship invades even science where discussion of forbidden topics, such as the differences between men and women, are forbidden. As administrators must be saying, ‘stick to the code!’

So, I would like to congratulate the  Cal Poly College Republicans  for all that they are doing to make Cal Poly better by encouraging a more open discussion of ideas. Keep up the good fight.

Nice first Column!
