WHO beat San Diego State? er… ah… Cal Poly?

Cal Poly Over San Diedo State! ... WHO beat San Diego State??? And to think that Bear Bryant’s widow moved to San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) to escape college football!

Who would have thought?

First, I have to tell you that I am NOT a big fan of Cal Poly on many levels… however, I am impressed that sandlot kids from C.P. playing in their street clothes could whoop San Diego State!

The local paper did a fine job covering the unusual event… with some of the expected hyperbola:

“Saturday’s victory not only ensured a fourth straight winning season for Cal Poly but cemented its place in the top 10 and keeps the Mustangs’ playoff plans in order.”

Gosh, I just wish they wouldn’t write about playoffs or National Championships… someone outside of SLO might actually read this! However, the ‘talk’ is bound to leak out as their sports writer is now a blogger.  On his blog he has a few links to how others view the debacle…

The Cal Poly Coach — who I defended in the local paper for getting a modest salary increase  might have been reading too much of his own press when he was quoted:

“In assessing the talent gap between his team and Division I-A schools last week, Cal Poly coach Rich Ellerson said he believed the Mustangs had reached a point where they could be competitive against middle-of-the-pack programs from the Mountain West and Western Athletic conferences.”

Ya think? Hmmm….  well, I did read the Cal Poly Athletic web site… and it looks like a good site… if you compare it to any univesity circa 1996. I can’t understand why their athletic site is sooooo cheap… it’s not like the better schools can buy more electrons. In any event, they tell of the rivalry between the two school that has recently been reenacted in this great duel… but that was different times and long long ago.

Today — I hear — that a so-called ‘full-scholarship football player’ at Cal Poly recieves a 1 shirt and 1 pair of shorts for free… but he must buy anything else he needs. As you can imagine, the other ‘sports’ get less. Oh, if you ‘letter’… you are awarded a Cal Poly T-shirt… just like the ones you can buy in their student store. whoo-hoo!

Maybe yuo guys could lend Cal Poly some of your nice clothes... facilities, shoes... and a ride home. So, San Diego State, nothing good came out of this meeting for you. To be humiliated by guys who have to buy their own shoes has got to hurt.

Cal Poly is a funny place where the President of the College actually makes three or more times as much as the football coach.

In my opinion, Cal Poly’s program died 20 years ago thanks to a President who has tried to turn Cal Poly into a quaint college… the kind you see dotted in the North East of our country. However, there are those individuals and a few teams from time to time that hang in there… hoping to make it something more.

Congrats to Cal Poly’s Football team… that won in spite of it all.

Speak Freely…. unless you’re in college

freedom of speech is our right

It may sound strange that we have the ability to speak freely everywhere in America…. except on many college campuses. I remember during my college days of the necessity of writing a ‘perfect marxist essay’ in order to pass a class.

Today, universities are not so easily fooled and many have enacted ‘speech codes’ and other restrictions to curtail opinions that they have interpreted to be ‘offensive.’

There is– fortunately– an organization that represents Americans attending or working in our colleges and universities against the intrusions of the ‘thought control police’.

Thanks to thefire.org — ‘defenders of individual rights in education’ — college life is becoming better for those who want to think for themselves. Here are a few of the latest subjects that you can explore on their site:

Student Apathy? … who says?

Gettnig a little help from our friends

When you hear about teachers — college or high school — complain about ‘student apathy’… what they really are saying is,” hey, I can’t get these brats to agree with me or change their minds.’ boo hoo

Ralph Nader — lifetime weenie man — spoke to a virtually empty house at my alma mater recently… and folks trotted out the ‘student apathy’ line. If people wanted to hear him… they would come and no amount of ‘extra credit’ from professors seemed to help the attendance.

Take a trip on GOOGLE and you will find a large number of folks wringing their hands about the problem of student apathy… but what they don’t know is that life today is very different from the times of successful leftist rhetoric.. the late 60’s and early 70’s. The ideology of the left has failed.. and everyone knows it.  I also lived in those times and watched fellow college students travel from campus to campus stirring things up, looking for a party and leaving a mess… all the while sucking on momma and daddy. We paid our own way though college… it wasn’t easy.

Today’s youth is committed to the future… it belongs to them. Many young men have put off college and sought a masculine life denied them throughout school… the world belongs to them too. Let’s remember, the military is composed of ‘volunteers”… yep, ‘volunteerism’ is something the leftists preach, so one would think that joining the military would be cool with them… uh huh… riiight

Nader warned students — the few who attended — that “Politics will be onto you in a very vengeful manner.” Well, it doesn’t look too good for you, Ralph. I know, it isn’t easy benig green anymore.  Students are not quite so gullible… they ask their speakers, ” what are you going to do for me? How is anything you say going to make my life better? and… what’s it gonna cost me?”

Well, the world is changing , dude… get used to it.

You’re a Football Widower? …hmmm…

alleged
I found this site of a female football fan… yep, they do exist! I was lucky enough to marry one.

The funniest part of the posting was a curious ‘complaint’ from the husband (pictured above) of being a “football widower! Briefly, the guy goes to his doctor to see what  can be done about this ‘malady’… and finally the doctor asks,”does she have a sister?” Read it for yourself…

Anyway, I’ve blogged on this before.. “Sports… it’s a guy thing” . I pointed out how Eharmony.com seems to have tapped into the need for men to find women who love football… and not the ones who love to drag you to the mall and make their men watch the Oscars.

I had thought of posting blogs of ‘football widows’… but after reading a bunch of these bitter latte sucking mall rats… I thought I’d just pass. However… let’s look at a couple of blogs of real women who love football…

Football keeps us together

And allow me to recognize a few of my family members who love football!

As you can see, we have a few ‘superfans’ her… they were at the game hours before it started!

So whether they are liberal or conservative… if they love football, they can’t be all bad.

Gil Burnham — “Weenie Man of the week!”

Gilbert Burnham
There is a ‘uniform’ for most of our liberal intellectual elite. You can recognize many of the women… they sport what is lovingly referred to as ‘man hair’, wear flowing skirts or jeans, no makeup and the requisite frown.

Male leftist college professors tend to wear a beard… although there are those trying ‘to blend in’ that look almost indistinquishable from male ‘meat eaters.’

This brings us to our “Weenie man of the Week!”. This guy is probably not a ‘meat eater’… because he went to a vegetarian university…. His name is Professor Gilbert Burnham and his one great current contribution to the “Bash & Blame America First” committee continues to be his reporting of incredible death figures in Iraq, despite evidence and support. However, it looks like — once again — he lacks credibility… even with the government of Iraq.

The Iraqi government is also questioning (Gilbert Burnham’s) survey results. The Manchester (U.K.) Guardian reported: The Iraqi government said the report’s death toll was “inflated” and “far from the truth”…..  An Iraqi government spokesman, Ali al-Dabbagh, said in a statement that the toll in the report “exceeds the reality in an unreasonable way.”

Our friends on the left like to introduce this sort of thing right before elections as they did in 2004… and only after the election does the report get fully discredited. Pajamas Media caught up with the author for an interview… and clearly Dr. Burnham ‘spin’ is amusing. They were not able to totally bare the old professor… but others did a pretty good job… and their links are below.

So, where did all the money come to run this study? It is reported that the major funder of the new study was the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Well, Gilberto, you have won a sizable honor… the distiquished ‘big weenie’!
You just remind me of

Remember “What about BoB?”, Gilbert?… I don’t know if it just the name… or the ‘look’… you just remind me of ‘Gil’… except he was in a plastic bag and you’re in a state of denial.
