Terrorist ‘Chic’ walks the London Runway?

Photo on YahooOkay, boys and girls, I know this isn’t going to sound too Politically Correct… but outside of folks named Osama, who’s gonna buy this stuff?

Believe it or not this is what is ‘haute coulture’ on the London Fashion scene. Want more pics? Now, I know a few women who might actually look good in this sort of thing… names starting with Hillary or Dixie Chics… but this is the sort of thing that sets the old time machine back to the times when three women sold for one cow.

Well, I guess we all get to thank this month’s Weenie Award winner as described by Yahoo: “A model wears an outfit by Fashion East designer Louise Golden during her catwalk show at London Fashion Week in London, Monday Feb. 12, 2007.”

You can read more about Fashion East and their ‘young designers’ here. However, real Islamic fashions can be found elsewhere.

I just might go for this sort of thing if it was marketed better… maybe, if we were told that this is cold weather gear… but then, the bare legs say another thing.

No ‘Snickers’ at Super bowl Ad

Do something ManlyOne of the funniest ads during this year’s 2007 Superbowl was an ad by M&M Mars for their lead candy bar… ‘SNICKERS.’

On the left are a few scenes from the ad… a guy who wants to ‘share’ his buddy’s Snickers Bar.. an inadvertant ‘kiss’ occurs, followed by shock… then a realization that they had to do something ‘manly’… so they tear hair off their chests… and screams erupt.

Very cool.

However, some folks do not have a sense of humor. The funny thing about it… is the fact that they probalby weren’t even watching the Super Bowl! Probably out doing soccer.

Obviously, folks that I would never meet over a barbecue were screaming that it was ‘homophobic’. I worked for a Mars division… so, I know this is hardly the case. It is unfortunate that complaints were made and others ‘bowed’ to the ‘pressure.

In any event, it was an amusing ad … you can watch it again on YOU-TUBE…

So, this month’s ‘Weenie Award’ go to CBS Sports and all the folks who have ‘no sense of humor what-so-ever.’

Academic Bias in Psychology Today

Psychology Today... gateway to Politically orrect thinknig

In a recent issue of Psychology Today, an article entitled “the Ideological Animal” presents research that… well… that is the worst academic tripe imaginable. The article references the Blocks of U.C. Berkeley ( where else?) studying the phenomenon of how conservatives and liberals develope, basically ask the question: are they ‘born that way?’  Liberals are descibed in glowing terms and conservatives as… hum … I think you can take it from here.

One can only speculate how this sort of stuff could be used….

DOCTOR — ” I am very sorry, there is NO cure…
it’s conservatism at it’s worst…
but fortunately, abortion is an option.”

However, one of the researchers in reviewing the field of Social Psychology was quoted in the same Psychology Today article:

There is a bias among social scientists,” admits Glaser.
“They look for the variables that are unflattering. There
probably are other nice personality traits associated
with conservatism…”

At the Pew Research center, Republicans are ‘happier’ than democrats.  This really shouldn’t be all that surprising really… conservatives by their lifestyle tend to have more stable marriages, they are happier and their children tend to fair better in the world. And the best time to get married — if you find the right person — is earlier than you think.

Personally, I am saddened when I see the sort of research come out by the left… not because I dislike the results, per se… but because it smacks of the same sort of  nonsense that the Nazi’s produced. When research is set out dishonestly… the results and intentions are always suspect.

Dating their female athletes… a male Coach’s Perk?

Ah, you look soooo lonely, babyWhen intercollegiate athletic competition was finally made available to women, it wasn’t surprising to learn that most of the coaches of women’s teams at the time were…well… women. That was back in the ’70’s… today, over 70% of the collegiate coaches of women’s teams are men.

And although some like to define the issue as being a problem with ‘lesbian’ women coaches and their athletes… it is really all about the guys having problems keeping ‘Mr. Winkie in the pants.’ It appears to be no small problem.

There was a ‘joke’ that circulated about a school here in California that seemed to turn a blind eye to coaches developing ‘inappropriate sexual relationships’ with one or multiple athletes under his ‘control.’ The ‘joke’ — after one coach was ‘fired’ — was that the job came with an additional perk… you could date your athletes. This wasn’t the only problem, the athletes in question were underage high school females.

What can a collegiate athlete do when she finds herself confronted with one of these predators? Sometimes going to other coaches or the administration is unproductive… and could actually jeapardize one’s scholarship and effectively end a promicing athletic career. As one administrator said ,”we will not sacrifice a winning coach because a problem of one athlete.”

So, who thinks it is a problem? Obviously the harrassed athlete doesn’t like the idea, but neither do many coaches , nor do other athletes on the affected team. In a study conducted by Karen, 83% surveyed felt that a romantic relationship between a coach and a member of their team hurt the team. Here’s Karen’s Survey.

Here’s how others view the issue:

Sexual harassment is a violation of law and impairs girls’ and women’s access to educational resources. Romantic and/or sexual relationships between coaches and athletes are regarded as an abuse of professional status and power.

Sexual harrassment of female athletes is still a problem. In time, institutions can be made to heal to the issue, but the responsibility today remains with the parents taking an active role in their daughter’s education and athletic experiences. Parent’s will be criticized for being involved… but it’s all about the girls… not about schools or coaches.

Got football?… or do Sumo? Takes a big man & a big heart!

Well, many folks in our world are really afraid of big men. Fear drives some of the stranges actions by those less challenged by gravity.

Just another Big Guy... besides I love Watching Sumo Wrestling when I can find it!I often find myself most comfortable with men my size… larger men… because we understand each other. We don’t fall into the ‘normal range’ of the BMI (body mass index) because our bones are bigger and denser and we are more thickly muscled…. and we ride Harley’s.  That’s the way it is.

We do get strange looks from smaller men — not all — but some generally act with  what we jokingly refer to as ‘castration anxiety.’ As for me, personally, I prefer fried bull testicles… so there should be no worries.

So, here comes a study about ‘overweight’ young football players from the athletically challenged:

“Researchers at Iowa State University found nearly half of the offensive and defensive linemen playing on Iowa high school teams qualify as overweight, and one in 10 meet medical standards for severe obesity.”

Read on and you will discover that they worry about who will be our children’s ‘role models’ and they fret impotently about the ‘obesity’ epidemic in America. However, the real worry shouldn’t be about these big athletic young athletes… because they are at least ‘active’…. one should be concerned about why others are going fat… and this is highly correlated with the limitation or elimination of physical education in high school and the reduction of recess in the lower grades.

If this wasn’t bad enough, all too many sports have been banned on the playground in schools today… from the ‘high bars’ to swingsets to dodgeball to anything ‘competitive’, it really shouldn’t shock us that kids are inactive…. because these same sorts of people are encouraging them to be this way…. it’s ‘cooperation not competition’ taken to extremes.

There is a real lesson here. Years ago, a heart specialist told me … he was one of my workout partners at UCLA while I was an athlete there… “you can never rebuild your cardiovascular system in middle age if you neglect it in your youth”. The morale is simple: we are doing far greater harm by not insisting on a vigorous athletic youth than criticising — say football players — for being naturally bigger than the average soccer player… which — as we know — is a non sport.

So, let’s encourage our youth to participate in a sport… any real sport… they’ll thank you for it later.
