Cal Poly lets the dogs (clowns) out! woof! woof! woof!

The Cal Poly university administrators have had their hands whacked a few times by the likes of  F.I.R.E. ( foundation for individual rights in education) and they don’t like it. They have been warned and they know they can’t directly do ‘business as usual.’  In fact, Cal Poly has been given F.I.R.E.’s worst rating: red.  They seem to be getting smarter, they have found a new way to insulate themselves from criticism and apparently ‘work behind the scenes.’

As a refresher, Cal Poly likes to run — in my humble opinion — fast and loose with the letter of the law. They seem to believe that they can whack you right up until the point you take them to federal court … and they have to roll over. In the meantime, they wasted lots of taxpayer money, time and become a national embarrassment. So famous is their aging  President Warren Baker that he was awarded the ignominious U.S. News and World Report ‘Sheldon” award in 2003! This has been a long standing problem.

The saga continues with the establishment of CARE-net, a nice sounding name for allowing anonymous allegations concerning fellow students and faculty. Setting up a virtual ‘court system’ for the university to put students and faculty (expressing their constitutionally protected free speech)through an unconscionable ordeal just sounds wrong! This reminds me of the unofficial Cal Poly motto “we reward compliance and not achievement.” Unfortunately it shows.  READ:

UPDATE!!!!!!

Fire’s Letter to Cal Poly’s Warren Baker!

…..the end? or the beginning?

Cal Poly to marry 10 year old girls to older men! you won’t see this on Google, but maybe Yahoo!

Hello again!

Once again the ‘clowns’ at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo are at it again!

Oh, I was just kidding with the title of this blog. I really don’t believe that Cal Poly is supporting a recent position of a Saudi Grand mufti supporting 10 year old girls as eligible for marriage because it wouldn’t be FAIR to the girls not to let them! … but then again, stranger things are happening at Cal Poly! Read Here ( btw, you won’t likely find this article in American papers or on Google… I couldn’t)

Actually, Cal Poly Mufti Warren Baker has decided — we hear — that they will be  going forward with their highly controversial deal with Saudi Arabia in spite of objections from every quarter of the community… except those who support ten year old girls marrying old codgers. Here’s part of an email that we somehow got  that explains a few things:

“we received a new version of the contract that had been reworked to fit a standard format that the Royal Commission uses for procurement contracts. Xenia and others have been working on it to ensure that the content is unchanged (or acceptable) and that contractual and financial terms and conditions are acceptable (some of these changed).”

Well…  we also heard — and it is unbelievable how much we do hear — that Cal Poly will have to ‘front’ the project until acceptable results are achieved!

So, here are a few things you are unlikely to find on Google:

Cal Poly Graduation: Be ‘coul’ dude

Who’s really embarrassing Cal Poly?

Cal Poly & Saudi Arabia: Send in the clowns!

Behind the Cal Poly & Saudi Arabian Green Door

ssshhh… Saudi Arabia is watching you!

Cal Poly degrees for Sale?

I am told this is Warren Baker... but I Cant tell... he looks so young here.

the Bill Of Privileges

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo has a history of free speech oppression

I grew up in a little town where we were required to learn a little bit about how our country works, the principles on which it was founded, the thoughts behind our founding and the rules they set forth in the beginning. Unfortunately, all too many folks do not know or understand something as simple as our BILL OF RIGHTS.

Simply put, Certain constraints are put on those who wish to govern. In addition, certain ‘rights’ (protections) are granted to everyone to insure that our government will not be too intrusive or annoying.

The importance of this became clear recently when a local ‘mob’ wanted to tar and feather a few Cal Poly students for their tasteless and tacky Halloween display. Under normal circumstances, Cal Poly — I believe — would have acted inappropriately and illegally towards these young people. As a rule, Cal Poly has a history of  ‘washing their hands’ before turning folks over to any assembled mob.

So, feeling that Cal Poly was about to make another mistake, I stepped in and wrote the following letter to the editor:

‘Educate the mob’

I don’t normally do this, so I have to congratulate Cal Poly for doing something right. It’s not that I think they wanted to, but it is the law.

Recently, some very self-righteous folks have been lambasting a few Cal Poly folks for flying a rebel flag along with some very tasteless decorations for some sort of Halloween party. I am not supporting what they did, just their right to be tacky and tasteless and their right to offend both you and me.

Cal Poly’s administration has held a hearing on this issue. It was everyone’s opportunity to voice their opinion and exercise their “free speech.”

Although some have advocated expelling the students or some Draconian punishment, the law is quite clear: This is protected “free speech.”

It is my hope that Cal Poly’s President Warren Baker will educate the mob.

San Luis Obispo

What happened next was predictable. Cal Poly held their hearing and a legal beagle working at Cal Poly explained to the mob the true meaning of ‘free speech.’ Obviously, if you are coming to see some punishment, you left rather disappointed, but then, you should have known better. Soon, a letter came in today’s paper attacking me personally, their logic was amusing.

Speech a privilege

This is addressed to Roger Freberg (Letters, Nov. 12) and all the abusers of the First Amendment:

Free speech is not free. It is a privilege!

Yes, you can say what you want, but maybe you should not, out of respect for others — and yourself.

There is an expression in another language which says: Swish your tongues 36 times in your mouth before you speak! Translated in English it becomes: Think before you speak or do something that is supposedly covered under the First Amendment.

Clearly, Dominique doesn’t understand that we are all protected by a  BILL of RIGHTS  not a Bill of Privileges. The right to speak our minds, the freedom to assemble, a free press ( 1st Amendment), a prohibition against unreasonable search and seizure (4th Amendment) and eight other very important rights that many in our government would like to ignore. For example, although almost any American soldier is welcome in my house, the Bill of Rights prevents the government from forcing me to share my small home (3rd Amendment).

Class is adjourned.

free speech means never having to say your sorry

free speech means never having to say you're sorry!

I couldn’t help from borrowing that old cliche from “Love Story” from the early 1970’s. Times seem to be repeating themselves with all of the agitation popping up around the country and here in California. Free Speech on college campuses has been one of the great battles in this decade. College campuses have inaugurated speech codes and other draconian efforts to squash voices that they disagree… however thanks to organizations like FIRE, this is changing.

What is ‘free speech’, anyway? It is the right to express yourself. Now, not all free speech is sweet, a lot of it can be downright offensive, but then who is it to judge? Obviously, there are limits on free speech, like yelling ‘fire’ in a theater, but by and large it is all basically fair game!

And the best way you can combat someone’s offensive free speech is by exercising your own!

This brings us to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, home of the ‘Sheldon Award Winner’ President Warren Baker.  Currently he is under pressure from various folks who want him to expell and punish, possibly even ‘waterboard’ a few students who in exercising their free speech managed to offend just about everyone. Well, most thinking people feel mobs are bad , so hopefully ol Dr. Baker can get it together long enough to give them a lesson on what is ‘free speech’!

Cal Poly is holding a ‘discussion’ soon and a lot of ‘free speech’ folks are watching.  Here’s why Cal Poly is so worried!

What you may not know:

Evan Coyne Maloney Heroic Documentary Film MakerFor those of you who haven’t heard about what’s happenin’ on college campuses today…let’s just say … it’s not all good.

Evan Coyne Maloney has produced a fascinating film — entitled ” Indoctrinate U.” – on what might be called ‘political correctness’ on college campuses.

One review:

“The Weekly Standardsaid, “The documentary combines relatively shocking footage (one professor excitedly tells the camera “whiteness is a form of racial oppression . . . treason to whiteness is loyalty to humanity”) with snappy editing to create a documentary that bounces quickly from subject to subject.”

Upcoming screenings of the film can be found on their site!

Is this Warren Baker President of Cal Poly?On one hand, on many campuses there exists a hyper-sensitivity to sexually displaying a banana on a campus, ‘hurting’ or ‘offending’ someone’s feelings…. whereas displaying our American Flag could become grounds for suspension some places. The inmates are running the asylum.

So, what has this to do with me? Yep, I — also — appear in the film. For 7 years, my wife — the professor — struggled for existence with Cal Poly State University at San Luis Obispo … and succeeded. And what happened to — in my humble opinion — the “bad guys?”... they eventually all received big raises and promotions.

If you get a chance… check it out. If it hadn’t happened to me… I’d be laughing.
