Okay, I am a big fan of sports, married a sports fanatic and have three sports enthusiasts for daughters… life is good.

So, obviously I follow  SC football Head Coach Pete Carroll when he joined ‘twitter’... yes, I was one of the early followers. ( does that sound snooty enough?)  What I have learned about ‘twitter’ I credit to my daughter Karen ( SC athlete, record holder and masters graduate from Annenberg’s impressive PR program at SC) and… yes… Pete Carroll, himself.

Coach Carroll and his staff continue to refine and focus their image, improve their message, target their audiences and present the best product year after year. Of course, this is what SC does! They are always ‘cutting edge.’ SC finds a wonderful balance between theoretical and practical, to quote a great American Psychologist:

“the truth is what works” — William James

So I captured Coach Carroll’s background image to see how he did it… and where he has it hosted: Amazon.com!

SC continues to amaze, inform and educate me… it’s what they do!

Okay, I only wished this happened, but I do think it is a wonderful marketing concept and conversation starter. If people who fish lie, then ex-athletes tell some of the biggest whoppers! I can hear it now as someone gazes at the above poster size framed photo and I remark,” oh yes, they really shouldn’t have … but ol Pete Carroll sincerely wanted to recognize my enormous contributions… and ‘G’ ( athletic director Mike Garrett) wouldn’t have it any other way….”

Yep, need tall boots to put up a picture like that.

I received this picture courtesy of the fine folks at USC’s photostore. They have a lot of other fine stuff… but for some reason this one caught my eye and made me smile. Now, maybe I could turn it into a postcard for all my Bruin friends!

John Madden and Cal Poly’s Warren Baker

John Madden the great and Warren Baker the Clown

There’s no way anyone can show their displeasure with someone better than sending them a clear message. Nothing can be clearer than what  Football legend John Madden allegedly does every year to Cal Poly President Warren Baker. There’s a story that came out that says Coach Madden sends Cal Poly President Warren Baker a one way airplane ticket that essentially tells Warren to ‘go back where he came from!’

Here’s the story!

Although there are those who will talk with funerary tones about the great Baker legacy when and if WB ever retires, there is another story that will surface that the story above only touched on.

In the meantime, thank you John Madden.

Sc Trojans Best Ohio State

Fight On! for Ol SC, Fight On to Victory!

There were so many heroes… so many Trojans that deserve recognition. However, my heart goes out to two who did a wonderful job setting the tone of the game… Ray Maualuga running back his interception for a touchdown is a highlight ( I played linebacker as a youth… loved that feeling!) and our quarterback… what can I say but “Viva Sanchez!”

The running backs fit the Trojan mold perfectly… who will shine the greatest the season is still unfolding!
