Jenny Craig Sound Barrier!

I know what healthy is!I think everyone has heard the screams from those who have failed to keep their diet… any diet. The excuses are endless I have heard …and made them all.

The biggest problem for me now-a-days is that I don’t want to hear it. Have I become a weight losing snob? Maybe. However, what I have come around to is the realization that no one loses weight UNLESS they really want to.

I know this guy … you probably know him too… he needs to lose weight or he’ll die but not until various parts of his body fall off or need to be replaced. I encouraged him to meet me and walk to the coffee shop. We didn’t need the company, I just thought it’d be good for him. He arrives bragging that he parked an extra space away from the entrance…

Anyway, I am far from ‘skinny’ but my friends joke that I am…”going thin.” My goal is to drop another 30… so it’ll take more time. Laura’s doing great… here she is wearing a size six that she just bought… and they are baggy!

I finally dropped to 247.6 today … very satisfying to be in the 40’s. I am down about 74 lbs now.

Jenny Craig & our Soldiers

Jenny Craig goes Military

It seems like a natural combination , once you think about it. Not all weight can be controled by exercise alone. The proper diet is critical to any maintenance program.

Having consumed M.R.E.’s (meals-ready-to-eat), I can honestly say that they are great, especially when you realize that they are ‘field rations.’ They beat the old style K-ration fruit cake by a mile! However, they are meant as ‘survival’ foods and high in nutritional… and caloric… content. I especially like the buttery pound cake… unfortunately, a mega caloric ‘butt builder’. It’s always fun to see women rave about it until they read and discover the caloric content.

Over time, I have noticed local soldiers enter our local  Jenny Craig  and I understand this is not a unique phenomenon. Kristin tells me that in Hawaii, many soldiers use the Jenny Plan to augment their heavy exercise load in order to ‘make weight’.

Kristin sent a photo of her “Jenny” dinner… noodles and chicken on the left and veggies on the right. yummy

The family that Jenny Craig’s together…

Web cams are a peek into their world

keeping an eye on Cape Town, South Africa

One of the most interesting phenomenon of our modern world is the proliferation of web cams in many of the cities in the world. I seem to remember seeing hundreds in London alone. For fathers, having a web cam in a city in which one of your adult offspring is living makes the distance feel closer. Obviously, it tells you so much more than a picture… the weather, the crowds or lack of people are all there to view in real time.

It is for this reason that I have  web cams of Cape town, South Africa  (the pictures above are of Table Moutain and a beach in Cape town) and  Hawaii  on  my desktop… oh yes, the girls would not allow radio controlled collars or subcutaneous transponders… for some reason?

Cape town looks very beautiful today.

South African Maise and Chicken Recipes

interesting, mouth watering recipes!

Karen sent a package that contained many wonderful things… the ‘evil one’ also put in some recipe books of just the stuff I would like to have right now!

I seems that the folks in South Africa would fit into our family real well. The food and the recipes are wonderful!  Tydsroom  ( the Tyson of South Africa) Chicken producers have a couple that interest me: A Kabob with chicken, bell pepers and covered with a sweet chili sauce! Yum! Next, a “Rashers” sandwich of sliced chicken breast cheddar cheese, butter lettuce, tomato, Sourdough bread and a sunny side up fried egg…. answering the question which came first the chicken or the egg… both!

Corn is a product grown in South Africa and “Maise” is used in a variety of clever ways. My favorite of  “White Star”  collection is “lamb skewers with pepper & white star super maise meal fritters.” Tastes like down home to me.

Aaaah… I am making lists!
