Don’t you just love this title?
We’re taking about ‘Career-is-my-life Gals” again… the ones who idolize Catie Couric. I guess I just still can’t forgive her for being rude to that nice ol country boy Garth Brooks. Yeah, her politics suck, too.
My guess is that most of the female bloggers who were ‘offended’ by the Forbes editorial just loOoOve Johnny… the original ‘weenie’… but I think he is working on only one testicle… so I should play nice. If you thought my comments hit the topic “Don’t Marry a Career Woman” hard… check out what else is out there in the blogosphere.
Bur first, not too many men blogged about this… It really wasn’t a big deal to us…. not to anyone with an ounce of testosterone that is. When I first read it on Forbes.com… I thought… okay, this is slightly amusing… but statistics — when genuine — don’t lie. Then came the tsunami of emotional, irrational, hysterical (got the picture?) fembot foo.
Some Folks had to say this:

They may not be ‘conservative’ but they have sized up life fairly well. All one can hope for is that our children will face the world for what it is… and not what they would like it to be. Politics should never get in the way of the facts, science or truth.

Hey, I have three daughters… and no soccer playing wimps in my house. I like it when they bring guys over who shake my hand, treat them well, talk football, know their way around a barbecue pit… and if they enjoy a little beer, so much the better.

On a related topic, “Dear Abby” had a reader ask the following:

MOTHER TRIES TO ENGINEER HER COLLEGE SON’S DATES
DEAR ABBY: I’m a sophomore in a good university, studying
chemical engineering. My mother feels that since I’m studying
such a potentially rewarding and well-paying field, I should date
only other engineers or pre-med students. She says she wants
me to date people who will benefit me if we stay together.
Earlier this year, I met a girl who goes to a local community
college and plans to be a teacher, and introduced her to my
mother on the phone. Afterward, my mother asked me what
school and major she was in. When I told her, she said I could
do better and should date people on my own level.
This was extremely hurtful. My mother never gives the girls I
introduce her to a chance. I really like this girl and don’t want
something like this to interfere. What can I do about my
mother’s narrow-minded thinking? — HURT IN HACKENSACK, N.J.
DEAR HURT: Not much, I’m afraid. You view selecting a
partner from a romantic perspective. From your mother’s
perspective, it will be a financial merger. I’m sure your mother
wants you to be happy as much as you do. However, you are
not an extension of her — and only you can determine what
qualifications are important to you in a life partner. When you
are fully mature you will understand this and make your own
decision without seeking her approval.

“Dear Abby” had some good advice going until she said to this young man “when you are fully mature”… yeah riiiight! I think her momma hired her…. when she grows up she’ll understand..
I am really not trying to pick on anyone here… but DEAR DAD would have answered it soooo differently: hey, kid, be a man. Time to say ‘sayonara’ to old mom and pick up, move out and make a livin’ for yourself. Yeah, I am saying, ‘stay in school’ if that’s what you want, but I am saying also that you’ll never really be an adult until you are handling your own finances. If the girls is as good a she seems, wants to build a life with someone… then I’d say she’s a keeper. Besides, I have always believed, if it works out that way, that it’s best to marry when you are both young.
By the way, I googled some of the gals who ‘protested’ the Forbes article and put up a picture of one of the more … extreme…. sheeeesh! It’s like Woody Allan said when he saw a huge crowd of women ‘burning their bras’… he chuckled,” it was a very small fire.”
There are REASONS some of these women are single, unattached, divorced, questioning, whatever I don’t want to know . Unfortunately, they don’t have a clue.

Okay, I have a little confession to make here. My wife is a University Professor and I do love intelligent women. Laura and I have always been best friends. Maybe it was because we were married at 20, maybe because we paid our own way through two graduate schools, or maybe it was because our basic underlying priorities are the same that our relationship has endured for 34 years. Maybe, it is for this reason, that I am a ‘little tough’ on career gals, because I know it can work… if both people focus on the same goal line and try not to hog the ball.
